Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• New regulations to strengthen safety measures for the carriage of dangerous chemicals by road are being prepared by the Government.

It is unlikely, however, writes our political correspondent, that the regulations will be introduced during the current sessiop of Parliament.

Ministers are anxious to ensure adequate packaging and labelling of chemicals, such as organic peroxides, compressed and liquefied gases and toxic substances.

The regulations will follow closely those already in force for the transport of inflammable substances and corrosive chemicals.

A long-term review is also in progress of the whole field of legislation covering the carriage of dangerous loads. At present, regulations are introduced under a variety of Acts, but the Government is considering replacing them by one unified Bill.
