Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SPECIFICALLY to cater for the Walsall

Sewage farm at Bescot, a tipping version of the Swop demountable-body system has been developed by Abelson Motors Ltd., Sheldon, Birmingham, which would also be suitable for other applications.

The use of similar types of vehicle is being considered by the Yorkshire Brick Co. Ltd., for interchanging tipper bodies—suitable for carrying sand and gravel—with the flat platform type which would be employed on general brickcarrying traffic.

Ipswich Co-operative Society is examining the potential of the vehicle as a means of solving the problem created by the disposal of waste derived from large stores.

A conventional type of Swop body is mounted on a tipping frame elevated by twin three-stage front-of-body rams, which provide a 430 angle of tip. The body is demounted in the normal way (with the tipping frame in the lowered position) by raising the sub frame with twin underbody hydraulic rams on its four radius arms, dropping the four corner legs of the body and lowering

the frame, the body being then suppOrted on the ground ready for the chassis to he driven away.

The body was produced by Ackers and Jarrett Ltd., Rootes distributors of Walsall, who supplied the 7-ton chassis and commissioned the equipment on behalf of Walsall Borough Council and is a light-alloy fixed-sided body having a length of 20 ft. and a width of 8 ft.

At the Walsall sewage farm, processed materials are loaded into the vehicle from a hopper and it is claimed that the use of a standard type of tipping body is preferable to employing a skip because the materials are light and bulky.

Two safety devices are incorporated in the hydraulic mechanism to obviate misuse of the system. Should the driver attempt to tip the load without locking the body to the sub-frame, the oil supply to the tipping rams is automatically cut off and pressure cannot be applied to the rams of the Swop body system if the body is locked to the sub frame. The entire lifting frame with the Swop-body mechanism is Lipped with the body.
