Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

flONSIDERABLE success is claimed kJ by G. Beaton and Son, Ltd., Victoria Road, London, N.W.10, in respect of the new Young B-type drop window which it has recently introduced. The design of the window is distinctly novel, the weight being supported upon a lazy-tongs, the action of which is controlled by the pressure of adjustable springs against cams.

As our sketch shows, the lower ends of the lazy-tongs are pivoted to the base frame of the window, the upper ends being keyed to short spindles in a longitudinal bracket fixed to the garnish rail. This bracket is tabular and contains two powerful coil springs which exert a constant pressure upon cams that are fixed to the lazy-tongs spindles.

A light pressure applied to the top of the window overcomes the resistance of the cams, allowing the window to move freely to any desired position, and the. springpressure is claimed to be adequate to hold the window, despite the effects of vibration. A screw adjustment is provided in the centre of the tubular bracket so that the spring pressure may be adjusted.

As there are no projections from the side of the garnish rail, no precautions are necessary in arranging seating accommodation, and a passenger is able to adjust the window by a slight pressure on a lip which forms part of the top channel. The window may be supplied completely framed with side channels concealed, and the bodybuilder has only to set the balance centrally on the waist rail and fix a couple of wood screws.

The cams are arranged to give a constant balance, except in the last inch or two of travel towards the top limit, when the window shuts tightly into the top rail. As the drawing shows, two spring-mounted rollers prevent rattle.

To withdraw the complete window it is necessary only to detach the two side pieces and the top finishing strip.
