Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

How safe should trucks be?

There's no doubt tnat if a truck collides with anything, the driver -along with the object the vehicle hits -should sustain as little harm as possible. But how far do you go to protect a driver from other human beings?

We often hear horror stories about drivers being attacked -even gassed in their cab. There have even been incidents of drivers being hit by shots from airguns. Unless operators are going to start investing in armoured trucks, similar events will probably not be stopped.

But there are some basics which might help. Sufficient and secure parking facilities with patrols -and that doesn't mean one man walking around 1 00-odd parked-up trucks. Not that such a person wouldn't do a good job but, if you've got a gang of people trying to steal something or assault a driver, you need more staff and greater security measures.

If increasing numbers of stories emerge of drivers being attacked, it surely won't be long before they start arming themselves in case they have to fight back. Let's hope something happens before then.

How many times have you parked up for a break having failed to roach your destination due to traffic problems or delays? And somehow, rather than explain the truth to your next port of call you say something like "I've had a breakdown and am awaiting the repair man."

Well beware if you're a member of The Pallet Network because boss Adam Leonard freely admits that he doesn't switch off just because he's out of the hub and has been known to catch drivers out when they've tried to pull something like this before. Leonard says he just can't switch off and somehow trucks from his membership just seem to be on his radar. A true truck spotter indeed
