Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This week saw the third Young European Truck Driver of the Year competition finals held in Sweden and for the first time followers of the British Champion (William Herron from Northern Ireland) could get almost instant details of his progress throughout the gruelling two-day event via TruckNet UK, William didn't come home with the first prize of a brand new Scania tractor, but he achieved a very creditable position, especially considering this was his first time driving in Europe. A full report of his trip and the competition is available on The Insider, on TruckNet UK (and see pages 16-17).

An interesting discussion on the LGV driving tests was sparked by the question: "If a trainee gets four minors and one serious violation, say, doing 33 in a 30mph area for 400 metres on a straight road which is virtually empty, or slightly inconveniencing a motorist on a roundabout, should they get a serious and therefore a fail,

or should the whole drive be taken into account (four minors) and be allowed to pass with one hell of a rollocking?"

There are some interesting responses including "would bet loads of DSA examiners would admit (off the record) that they have failed people who did not meet a specific criteria, though they actually demonstrated a higher overall standard of driving than somebody who 'ticked all the boxes', but overall didn't drive all that well".

Is the current driving test a true reflection of a driver's ability to drive LGVs? Join in the forums and have your say.

Owner-drivers in their forum are discussing an owner-driver's new acquisition of a Hino eight-legger. Many of the responses declare they are pleasantly surprised by the photos, having not considered a Hino before. The new owner is unsurprisingly well chuffed with his truck.
