Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Recent changes in Construction and Use Regulations, which mean that semi-trailers normally used on international journeys are no longer limited to 12.2rn overall length, has prompted Hyva (UK) to offer its short semi-trailer coupling system to British operators.

The Hyva device, which has been marketed in Europe for the past two years, provides a longer platform length when used in conjunction with a standard day cab tractive unit and will allow up to 26 pool pallets or 33 Europanets to be carriecL Hyva's mechanical kingpin system consists of ; turntable fitted beneath the semi-trailer, equipped with external gear teeth which mesh with a smaller gear wheel to drive an eccentrically fitted drive rod. The turntable with kingpin and a wedge is mounted on an auxiliary frame.

Articulation turns the wedge and turntable, and is converted into longitudinal movement of the frame which allows a constant front-of-trailer to rear-ofcab clearance of as little as 200mm.

It has a built-in height of 214mm, and adds 400kg to the unladen trailer weight. Price is around 24,500.
