AFTER a slight improvement, the shortage of spare parts for vehicles of all types still presents a critical problem. At a meeting of the Transport Association in London, on Tuesday, shortages of all kinds of spares were reported including, in particular, pistons, liners and oil seals for both British and foreign trucks.
Operators were incensed that not only were they called upon to bear a financial penalty because their vehicles were out of revenue — earning traffic, but their 0 licence was in jeopardy because they were unable properly to maintain their vehicles.
It was suggested that operators should take the matter up at the highest level in the manufacturers' organization not excluding writing to the company chairman.
It was pointed out that it was of little use the manufacturers' displaying all kinds of shiny new vehicles at the Commercial Motor Show if they could not supply parts to keep running those vehicles already on the road.
