Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHEN granting an application by the VV Northern General Transport Co. at a sitting of the Northern Traffic Commissioners at Durham last week, the chairman, Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, said that while he would not think of travelling from Newcastle to Sunderland other than by train, people who preferred buses were entitled to be considered.

The application was for permission to run an express service every half-hour, instead of every hour, between Newcastle and Sunderland on Saturdays, and to reduce the service of stopping buses from one every 10 minutes to one every 15 minutes. British Railways opposed the application.

Mr. K. Holmes. assistant traffic manager for Northern General, said the express buses saved from 10 to 15 minutes on the journey and the company wanted to give passengers using the normal buses the opportunity of a quicker and more comfortable ride.
