THE following rates for the hire by the General Post Office of vans for the carriage of Christmas mails have been agreed by the Road Haulage Association and the National Association -of Furniture Warehousemen and Removers for application in London: 251-350-cu.-ft. van, 12s. 9d. per hour plus 71c1. per mile over 50 miles a day; 351-450-cu.-ft. van, 14s. per hour plus 9d. a mile; larger vans, 15s. per hour and 9d. per mile.

The minimum daily hiring is 8.'f hours. or 54hours on Sundays and Christmas Day. An extra 8d. an hour is chargeable for work between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Extra wages payable on Bank Holidays, Sundays, weekly short ,days and so on are an additicinal charge. Tenders for the carriage cf. Christmas mails in London have to be returned by October 15. Vehicles must have interior lighting.
