AN A N• application by an East Cumberland haulier for a larger vehicle, which came before the Northern Licensing Authority, last week, was adjourned at the haulier's own request. Mr. G. A. Stamper, Culgath, Penrith, sought a variation of his A licence by the addition of a vehicle of 4 tons 18 cwt. unladen.
He volunteered to surrender a special A licence for a vehicle working mainly for Massey-Harris-Ferguson, Ltd., on the carriage of machinery from Kilrnarnock to the 13irmingharn area. The new vehicle would take over that work, he said.
For the British Transport Commission, Mr. F. J. McHugh objected on the ground that the new vehicle would be able to carry more than the specialA lorry, Mr. Stamper replied that the extra 4 ft. length. of the new vehicle would allow it to be more safely loaded, but would rust facilitate extra traffic on the outward runs. He might, however, he able to gain extra weight on return loads of trattor transmissions. "The application is not intended to allow me to carry more traffic, although it is a larger vehicle," he said.
