Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Aa interesting review of the licensing position in the West Midland Area was given recently by Col. A. S. Redman, the Licensing Authority. Since April of last year, 11,000 applications for A and B licences had been dealt with. Three appeals had been made against the Authority's decisions, and two of these had been withdrawn, whilst the third appeal was dismissed by the Tribunal.

Col. Redman said that the results showed that applicants appreciated that every effort had been made to come to a proper decision on the evidence submitted, and, in the main, those decisions had been accepted.

Albion's 1936 Programme.

In addition to the introduction of the new 44-ton and 3I-4-ton chassis described elsewhere in this issue, Albion MOtors, Ltd„ Glasgow, is incorporating a number of improvements in existing models for the forthcoming season.The 44-5-ton and maximum-load 6-74ton four-wheelers will have Dewandre

triple-servo brakes .and. new-type radiators, which are higher, and of more pleasing and modern appearance.

The heavy-duty maximum-load chassis, which are expressly designed for use with trailers, will be standardized with six-cylindered engines and heavier axles. Alternatively, Gardner five or six cylindered compression ignition power units will be offered.

Double or single-drive bogies are to be available for the six-wheelers with gross load capacities of 14 tons and unladen weights not exceeding 6 tons. All models in the range will be built with the steering box farther forward— at the extrenie front of the off-side longitudinal.

Radius Reduced from 75 to 10 Miles.

The reduction of his coal-carrying radius from 75 to 10 miles was a condition on which the licence of Mr. H. Adams, coal merchant and huckster, of Sherburn, Malton, was renewed at York last Friday. This case gives special point -to the warnings regarding the renewal of B licences given in last week's issue by Capt. E. IL B. Palmer,

National Road Conference Delegates Visit Leyland Works.

Oct Monday a party of over 200 delegates to the National Road Transport Conference, including a number of ladies, were the guests of Leyland Motors, Ltd., where they were received by ' Messrs. J. H. Toulmin, the chairmain ; H. Spurrier, managing director ; and A. A. Liardet. general manager.

After luncheon the party spent the afternoon touring the immense works, which proved of great interest even to the ladies. We have visited them on many occasions, but never without finding new extensions, improved Machine tools and even more efficient production methods. We noted specially the recently reconstructed heattreatment department.

C.M.U.A. Reconstitution in Lancashire.

Important steps for reconstitution and strengthening activities generally, were taken, last week, at a meeting, in Preston, of the divisional committee of the Commercial Motor Users Association, Mr. W. E. Macve, chairman of the C,M.U.A. Manchester area, was elected chairman, and it was decided that the divisional committee should comprise one delegate, who is to be an expert in the subjects due for attention, from each of the seven areas in the division.

The area will not necessarily send the same representative to each divisional meeting. For example, if matters appertaining to bridges are to appear on the agenda, each area will be notified, so that the delegate may be chosen accordingly. KARRIER AND SUNBEAM • TROLLEYBUS MANUFACTURE.

Rootes Securities, Ltd., announces -that the manufacture and sale of both Sunbeam and Karrier trolleybuses will, in future, be carried out by Sunbeam Commercial Vehicles, Ltd. Mr. G. F. Mortimer, who for many years has been secretary of the Sunbeam Motor Car Co,, Ltd., will act as manager, and Mr. H. L. Brodie, who for the past few years has been associated with the sale of Sunbeam trolleybuses, will become sales manager of the company..

Liverpool Hotel for Lorry Drivers.

A large sum of money has recently been spent on the "David Lewis Hotel," Great George Street, Liverpool, with the object of offering transport drivers arriving in Liverpool an attractive type of accommodation. Situated only a few minutes' walk from the centre of the city and the docks, the hotel has had one dormitory converted into 28 private bedrooms, 12 bed-sitting rooms, private bathrooms and a lounge. .

The weekly rates are 10s. for a bedroom and 12s. for a bed-sitting room, or is. 10d. and 2s. per night respectively. A good breakfast is supplied for 6d., and there is cheaper accommodation in another dormitory for is. per night.
