AN INTERNATIONAL haulier who failed to provide financial information for 10 months and also did not appear at a subsequent public inquiry to explain why, has had his licence revoked with immediate effect.

Chinley-based Steven Firth, trading as Firth International Transport. had been called before the North Western Traffic Commissioner, Beverley Bell. at a Golborrie public inquiry, but failed to appear.

Last December, when she granted Firth a onevehicle licence, the IC gave him 28 days in which to demonstrate that he met the financial requirements.

The TC said Firth had been represented by transport consultant Alec Hayden, who had written a series of letters to the Traffic Area Office explaining why the required information was not forthcoming.

In July Hayden wrote to say that his firm had terminated its agreement with Firth and that William Huskisson had resigned as Firth's transport manager. Hayden had advised Firth to surrender his licence.

Hayden subsequently wrote enclosing a bank statement and a letter from HSBC saying that the delays had been due to an error at the branch.

In August Hayden again wrote,to say that Firth had said he wanted to surrender his licence and Hayden was awaiting written confirmation that was so.

In September he wrote to say that he had still not received that confirmation.

Revoking the licence on the grounds that she was not satisfied Firth met the requirements in relation to finance and professional competence. t he TC said she was no longer prepared to wait.

She said she was extremely grateful to Hayden for the assistance he had given in keeping her and the Traffic Area Office informed of developments at all times.
