Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YOU RECENTLY ran an interesting article about drums vs discs ( CM 25 August). Perhaps you would be interested in my experience.

I have been driving artics for over 50 years, starting with a 1949 Bedford Scammell eight-tonner. I have now driven somewhere between four-and-a-half and five million miles.

My present vehicle is a 40tonne ERF EC14 (1997) on drums with a Jake brake, which I bought secondhand four years ago. In June this year I bought, off -the-shelf,a new Montracon curtain-sided trailer, fitted with Arvin Mentor axles and disc brakes. So, the combination is a nearly nine-year-old tractor and ABS, and a four-month-old trailer and EBS.

This is proving to be the smoothest and best balanced system I have ever experienced under all conditions, loaded and empty. What the long-term resulk will be I do not. know, and I will probably not work long enough to find out. But at the moment. I have the hest combination ever.

I would further add that on phoning Arvin Mentor and speaking to a Mr Pete O'Connor, I received free of charge complete workshop manuals and two maintenance videos. They were most helpful.
