EAST ANGLIAN operators have welcomed plans that will bring forward a 1;147m scheme to dual the last single-carriageway section of the All.

The Highways Agency says work can begin on the nine-mile stretch of road between Barton Mills and the southern end of the Thetford Bypass in late 2010, subject to the outcome of the statutory process It will be ready to open to traffic in 2013, 18 months ahead of the previous schedule.

Graham Mayes, business development manager at Snetterton, Norfolk-based Foulger Transport, says: "We have up to 40 lorries a day on the All — significant numbers As much as a reduction in journey times, it will also bring consistency to journey times as well."

Peter Brown, MD of Fakenhain-based Jack Richards & Son — which runs 25 lorries on the All each day — says: "Anything like this will help the area become more competitive."
