Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The FTA's campaign points to Department for Transport (DfT) figures that suggest a number of foreign lorries do not meet the same safety standards as their UK counterparts.

DfT data covering 2006 show that foreign lorries were involved in 163 accidents where there was a fatality or a serious injury.

This was nearly 8% of those involving HGVs, despite the fact that foreign lorries only account for 1% of HGVs on British roads.

The DfT report also highlights that roadside checks revealed 22% of foreign lorries to be in unroadworthy condition.

The FTA concludes that "foreign lorries operating on UK roads are most certainly not maintained to the sort of safety level which has been created by the UK 0-licensing regime".
