FROM today, operators of Scania lorries will be able to take advantage of a new roadside assistance service, Scania-Lifeline.

The scheme is operated on a nationwide basis, from one central control number — 01-571 4633 — and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Once this number is called, the appropriate assistance can be mobilised.

This can vary from the simple replacement of a windscreen glass to more extensive repairs.

In addition, Scania-Lifeline will arrange for alternative replacement vehicles or even contact cold stores for ref tigerated loads.

If overnight accommodation for the driver is required, the service is able to book it.

When. calling the service certain facts are required by Scania-Lifeline.

These include the Scania type and wheelbase, details of the breakdown and the type of load carried.

For billing purposes the name of the operator's local• Scania agent is also required.
