A feature of the Stonefield design is the use of the Ferguson Viscous Control unit, a fluid shear coupling, in the final drive to provide optimum traction under all conditions.
In normal conditions the device provides a split of one third the power to the front axle and two thirds to the rear axle.
With a wheelbase of 2.40m (first to centre axle) and a bogie wheelbase of 0.95m the overall length of the Marconi vehicle is 5.38m. On single 7.50-16 tyres all round the unit is plated for a gvw of 5800kg.
