Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

check the significance of evidence given at se contract A renewal application of Stoke Michael Transport Ltd. recently, a testhing of a Ford vehicle under various condi; of load was supervised by the Western ic area's chief vehicle examiner at Bristol on lnesday.

"sing a hired 6 cu. yd. high-sided tipper— vehicle concerned in the application had since scrapped—front and rear axle loadings were :ked when loaded with sand to 14 tons g.v.w. ertain conditions of load it was found that the axle weights could be more than 1-1tons the 9 tons maximum permitted under the dations.

a the request of Mr. Ian Jenkins, for the licant company, the vehicle was loaded to ;It 9 tons exactly on the rear axle, giving a load of 8 tons 7 cwt. 1 qr. on a g.v.w. of :ons 10 cwt. 3 qr.

k representative committee of objectors to the renewal bid were present together with Mr. J. F. Cox, RHA area secretary, and Mr. T. A. Dodds, Dunlop area representative.

Mr. Arthur Duckett, for the objectors asked the chief vehicle examiner, Mr. I. Elwood, to carry out a Tapley meter brake test on the road but Mr. Elwood refused. "If we did so and the figures came low we would have to suspend the vehicle" he said. "Obviously we can't operate a vehicle illegally or aid and abet an operator to do so."

The Ford Motor Co. refused to send an observer but Mr. Dodds told me that by using 900 X 20 14-ply tyres all round the g.v.w. should not exceed 12 tons 19 cwt. 2 qr. 12-ply tyres on the vehicle tested were very unsafe, he thought, at 14 tons g.v.w. and in his view a g.v.w. of 12-1tons was the maximum permissible. It is understood that the objectors intended to press the Western LA to reconvene the public inquiry. J.D.
