A SHROPSHIRE HAULIER has converted all of its 44-tormers to operate on unmixed biofuel in a bid to combine going green with increasing profits.
H Wragg Transport has converted its 15 tractor units Lo operate on Verdant Fuel, made from rapeseed, and expects the cheaper cost of biofuel to pay back its investment within a year.
Malcolm Wragg, who runs the family owned business at Little Hereford, near Tenbury Wells, says: "It's gone pretty well so far. At first, I was worried that the trucks might not operate as well, perhaps with a loss of power and so on, but that isn't the case."
Another potential worry is the rising cost of rapeseed. but Wragg has built a set price for the fuel into its contract with Verdant Fuels.
Wragg adds: -If the price really did go through the roof in the long term, we could just convert back to diesel, so
I don't think there is any real risk."
The firm also believes that reducing its carbon footprint means environmentally aware customers are more likely to give it work. Verdant Fuels says its fuel produces around 30 times less CO, than a conventional biodiesel blend.
