Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Tam aghast at the inaccuracies that have been published in the Despatch Magazine by the Driving Standards Agency. It clearly staled that the voluntary register was supported by the Association of Vocational Driver Training Providers (AVDTP) and LGV Instructors Association. This was not and is not the case.

We have opposed the register on the grounds that it was set up on an undemocratic basis. The dice were loaded against the training industry from the start. We had no say in any final decisions as these had been made prior to any workingparty meetings.

Even the final paragraph regarding 500 trainers expressing interest is not substantiated. If the truth were known the DSA could not produce 50 names let alone 5()0! All the members of the AVDTP in the SouthWest, Wales, the South, London, the Midlands and the North have voted against the register as it is not based on equal rights for all who wish to enter.

We want a register, but on an equal footing. It would pay never to forget that the small operator does a good job and puts bums on the seats of trucks.

If we were all faced with only one choice the country would become undemocratic. Hence the uproar concerning this register—it appears to have been devised in an undemocratic way.

Give the man in the street equal rights and the DSA will get its register off the ground with everyone joining knowing that he/she will get a fair and equal chance to show his/her skills.

Tony Hall, Secretary, AVDTP (SM.
