Published by Poole-based Eurofreight, which created the less complex Eurofreight web-site two years ago, Worldfreight attempts to link drivers with hauliers and hauliers with customers anywhere in the world. Within two weeks of its launch on 14 March customers were seeking hauliers to carry loads across Europe.
Spokesman lain Beveridge says Worldfreight will be free for at least 12 months, paid for by advertising, although a "small" monthly subscription may be eventually be charged. Unlike Eurofreighrs site, Worldfreight's load-matching database is split into two; a pure load-matching service and a consolidation service. The site also includes a freight forum where hauliers can discuss issues.
Parts of the site dedicated to rail and air freight are expected to help encourage multi-modal freight movements.
