THIS WINTER's wage round has reached its conclusion, with a signed agreement in Eastern England and an imposed settlement in North Wales.
The Eastern area deal takes the top rate basic pay from £80 to £85 for 40 hours, and subsistence pay rises from £9.50 to £10.
In North Wales, the Transport and General Workers Union has rejected the employers' final offer, but the Road Haulage Association is advising its members to pay a basic rate of £85 and £9.75 subsistence. This represents an increase on last year's £79 and £9 subsistence, and takes North Wales into line with many other areas of Britain.
There still are negotiations going on at company level, and although the National Freight Consortium has concluded a 7.5 per cent rise agreement at British Road Services, deals have still to be struck at Pickfords Removals and Roadline UK.
