AFTER 35 years in the Cooperative movement, in which he held about half-a-dozen posts as transport manager, as well as that of Unigate Dairies area transport manager in Birmingham, Tony Paine is deserting the heavy brigade. The contrast in jobs could hardly be greater, for he has taken up the new appointment of general secretary of the Disabled Drivers' Motor Club.
Under the presidency of Lord Montague of Beaulieu, the club is celebrating its diamond jubilee. It claims to have more than 11,000 members and to be expanding rapidly. In offering a wide range of services to handicapped drivers it promises a rewarding occupation to anyone who enjoys helping others less fortunate.
