THE TAUNTON CIDER Co It has carried out its own yar shunter conversion of a time-el pired Leyland Marathon tractiv unit, using a Shuntmaster ki offer from Lyka Cranes Ltd, Pret ton, Lancs. This is the first kii built Shuntrnaster to go int service. The conversion kit i currently priced at £10,000. Lyka claims to be able to rE build any make or model of trac tive unit. The specification ir dudes a fully trimmed ste( tilting half-cab, power steerinc elevating fifth-wheel couplinc wide rear-of-cab access dooi way and a full-width transvers cat-walk.
Conversion of the Maratha was undertaken by Taunto Cider at its Norton Fitzwarrei workshop.
The rebuilt vehicle now work 88 hours a week and is expecte+ to make 15,000 trailer pick-ups year.
