Silvertown Lubricants, Ltd., was held recently in the' Oak Room of the Trocadero, London, W. It was a most enjoyable function, including an excellent musical programme, and WRI:5 attended hy the directors of the company and the large inside and outside' selling staff, who had tome from all. parts of the country to be present. at a

At the 'conclusion of the dinner the chairman, Mr. Arthur Stephens; director and general manager, in a short but interesting speech; proposed the toast " Success to the Company." He mentioned that last year they hail instituted a forward policy -WI cope with the prevailing state of trade depression, and it hid been so successful that in 1922 the tonnage of lubricants marketed was 65,5 per cent, higher than in 1921. Not only this, but the sales Were larger than in any previous year, including those of the war.The profits_ obtained were satisfactory, although the busine,ss was conducted on fair and equil„,:ble lines with no slaughtering Of prices. He also pointed out that the company were now one 34 the largest dealing in lubricating' oils in the country, and, whilst _ not wishing to flatter he believed in telling the ;truth, and in this connection he wished to say that the success attained was due AD the Co-operation of, all departments from the top to the bottom, all working to one otithmon end—the suc

cess of the company. Much of the success was due to the . fact that Mr. W.' Le, the works manager, was one of the finest chemists in the oil trade. The toast of "the Staff" was given hy the, Chairman of directors, Mr. O. 'Thrace Celt. ThiS gentlemAn pointed out that almost everything had already been

said by the .first speaker. He mentioned that a was extraordinary that the success obtained by the company last year should have been greater than in 1921. Featherstone, secretary. — Mr. Wray subsequently referred to the fact that 862 new accounts ware opened last year.
