• Whelan Environmental, which processes and transports industrial chemicals, has taken the first of a new design of triaxled aluminium hazardous waste tanker trailers.
Whelan is based in Birmingham with depots in the Midlands and the North-East. It wanted more payload in an acid waste carrier than the 20-22 tonnes of its 20 steel artic tankers. Thompson Carmichael came up with the answer in the form of a glass-lined 26.000-litre trailer.
Features include: acid-proof polypropylene valves and pipework: a rear door covering three-quarters of the overall diameter; a hydraulically driven exhauster, and an on-board weighing system.
According to Whelan's operations director Chris Williamson, the Cornhill-approved semitrailer promises an early return on the capital invested.
