• Since we visited the R I A's last TankCon Exhibition two years ago much of the ground work for the harmonisation ()I' legislation, governing the carriage of dangerous substances throughout the EC, has been achieved. In the UK the Health and Safety Executive has recently published its proposals and while the Continental ADR scheme has had a strong input with regard to tanker marking and more importantly, from an industry point of view, driver training, there is still time to respond.
Once again the restricted space al the Chamock Richard venue was crammed to capacity and there was talk among the exhibitors of relocation to more salubrious surroundings, befitting an international show. Tank builders continue to dominate the exhibits supported by trailer, vehicle chassis and associated equipment manufacturers. While traditional body building is at an all time low, the more specialised tanker market, serving the chemical and food industries, is faring rather better and in some areas is even experiencing some growth.
