Chris Wright, managing director of independent Commercial Vehicle Auctions, runs sales of commercial vehicles, trailers and plant twice monthly at his Doncaster site and organises auctions on customers' premises around the country.

"We haven't seen any Oaf 85CF Series eightwheelers yet," he says.

"That's no surprise as in the construction industry trucks tend to be kept for longer than two years unless they have been bought for a specific contract. We do see the earlier models. The 85 is a good truck and it is a good seller.

"They are fairly plentiful and we get a lot of interest from tipper operators. Muckaway operators like them with the heavy back end, although that type of hard work does shorten their life. We have seen quite a few with either Reynolds Boughton or Multilift hook-loader equipment for the waste industry. Rope systems are not popular any longer.

"Oaf's 11.6-litre engine is well accepted and the 330 and 360hp versions are the ones they want most. Operators seem to like the cab but the seats and trim on early examples can get a little tatty. The quality improved on later models."
