L' 1G HT underpasses and fly-overs La were scheduled for construction in London under the road programme for four years ending March 31, 1959, the Minister of Transport said last week. They will cost about £3m.

Underpasses are to be built on the Kingston by-pass at Hook Road; on Western Avenue at Hanger Lane: on the London-Canterbury road at the southern approach to the DartfordPurfleet Tunnel; and at East India Dock Road at the northern approach to Blackwall Tunnel.

Fly-overs will be constructed at Gunnersbury on the Cromwell Road extension; at the North Orbital road on the Sr. Albans by-pass; at the London-Holyhead road at the St. Albans by-pass and at Burlington Road on the Kingston by-pass.

LORRY ROBBERS JAILED

TW0 men were each jailed for four years at Birmingham Assizes last week for stealing, with violence to the driver, a lorry load of copper wire worth £6,406. Learning that the load had not been recovered, Mr. Justice Einnemore said that he was satisfied that there was some depot in London to which valuable goods could quickly be transferred.

The driver had been resting in his cab on the Coventry by-pass when four men forced him into a car and drove him away, it was stated.

CONCOURS FOR PUBLICITY VANS

AN international concours for vehicles and trailers built for advertising purposes is to be held in Riccione, Italy, on August 25-26. It is claimed to be the first international competition of its kind. The concours is open only to vehicles built after 1949. MOBILE SHOPS FOR PUERTO RICO

QIX mobile shops were due to be

exported this week to Puerto Rico. The vehicles, which represent an order worth $50,000. are Commer Superpoise 5-ton chassis with Migros-type bodywork by Smith's Delivery Vehicles, Ltd. They are stated to he the first large British goods vehicles to be exported to Puerto Rico, where they will be operated by a co-operative organization.

CONCESSION FOR FARMERS?

BEFORE the harvest, the Minister of Transport hopes to amend the regulation requiring 24 hours' notice to be given to the police before a combine harvester over 8 ft. wide is used on a public road for a journey exceeding five miles. He proposes to increase the width limit to 9 ft. 6 in,
