CAPTAIN G. P. ROBERTS, R. A .O.0 chief engineer of Bendix, Ltd., is a prisoner of war. He has been able to state that he is well, and he sends his sincere greetings to all his friends in the Trade. We are glad to learn that the anxiety of his family is now relieved, and we trust that his stay in enemy hands will not be unduly prolonged.
MR. F. A. FARNWORTH, formerly in business as a motor engineer and garage proprietor, Ras been appointed to the new position of manager of Blackburn Corporation's motor-service vehicles and service station. He will have under his direct control all machines other than those of the transport department and of the police. The vehicles of the A.F.S. will be under his jurisdiction.
London Passenger Transport Board has lent three of its principal officers to the Government. MR. A. A. M. DURRANT, Chief Engineer (buses and coaches), has been appointed Director of Tank Design, Ministry of Supply. MR. W. S. GRAFF BAKER, Chief Mechanical Engineer (railways), has been appointed Director of Tank Production. Ministry of Supply. MR. M. J. H. BRUCE, Works Engineer (Chiswick), has been appointed Mechanical Engineering Adviser to the Quartermaster-General, War Office.
Scottish Association Appointments
AT the first directors' meeting, held after the annual general meeting of the Scottish Carriers and Haulage Contractors Association, Mr. Andrew Duncan was appointed chairman. His knowledge of the transport industry and able leadership will be welcomed at the present stage. Mr. James Ferguson is the vice-chairman of the Association.
Association Protects Milk Hauliers in Lanark
Trisk that many hauliers actively engaged on milk haulage in Lanark would lose much of that traffic, has been obviated by the prompt action of the Scottish Carriers and Ilaulage Contractors' Association. A movement had started which would have risulted in small groups of farmers carrying milk for hire or reward in vehicles authorized only under an agricultural licence. The scheme was strongly opposed by the Association and the hauliers who formerly carried the traffic were reinstalled.
