Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ing article for this issue, came particularly interesting news from United Dominions Trust, Ltd., Regis House, King William Street, London, E.C.4.

This important banking concern, which for a long period has carried out a large portion of the financing of purchases of vehicles, has similar ideas to ours concerning the value of keeping as many vehicles as possible on the road, and extending their lives by thorough overhauling and repair.

To assist operators to achieve these desirable objects, it has decided to increase its already large facilities by providing operators with the necessary finance to carry out this work. In times like these, when often hauliers and others have to wait a long time for payment for their work, particularly by the military and other authorities, they sometimes find it difficult or inconvenient quickly to produce comparatively large sums. Now, they will be provided with a method by which their

major, bills for repairs can be spread over a ctinvenient period.

The Trust is to be congratulated on its enterprise in this direction, of which, we have no doubt, full advantage will be taken. An announcement by the company will be found in our advertisement pages.

M. of T. Considers Grouping Scheme Best

CULL details of the Report on the I allocation of traffic, prepared by the ad hoc committee of the .Transport Advisory Council under the chairmanship of Mt. S. E. Garcke, were not available before we closed for press. For some curious reason, the representative bodies in the industry have not been informed of its contents, although it was submitted to the Minister nearly two months ago.

In the main, the Report follows the previous suggestions of voluntary coordination between the transport interests, hut it appears that the Ministry does not approve the proposals, and considers its own grouping scheme to be working so satisfactorily as to require no major alteration.

DANGER OF FAKING VEHICLE RECORDS

DEPORTS that some operators of .1.‘goods vehicles, in order to obtain extra fuel, have been falsifying their vehicle records by entering, for example, particulars of fictitious journeys for vehicles unlicensed or laid up for repairs, or by incorrectly stating their petrol consumption, are being investigated by the Minister of Transport.

The Ministry has asked us to point out that under a recent Defence Regulation 'false statements of this nature may be punished by three months' imprisonment or a fine up to £100.

H.G.V. Licences: The Position Explained

THERE is still a .certain amount of misunderstanding as to the conditions under which H.G.V. licences can be granted. In particular, it does not appear to be fully understood that H.G.V. permits cannot be granted where (a) drivers are about to register for military service, and (b) the employer is not actually in possession of a fully licensed heavy goods vehicle.
