Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Although ZF’s 12-speed EcoSplit box first broke cover in 2007, DAF has only recently confirmed that it will be taking it as the ‘starting point’ spec in its UK heavy truck range. With uprated ‘carbon’ synchronisers and molybdenum-treated three main gears, ZF is boasting improved durability in the 12-speed EcoSplit. “We will also start to fit these carbon synchro rings in the eightand 16-speed manual gearboxes, so helping to increase their service life,” says DAF product marketing manager Phil Moon. It will also come with the latest upgraded ServoShift as standard. The 12-speed direct-top Ecosplit will be ‘standard’ on all single-reduction axle models, with engines delivering up to 2800Nm of torque.

According to DAF, the new box will be “easier for ‘non-professional’ drivers, with wider gears it offers higher durability and being lighter, more payload too”.

ZF adds that the new EcoSplit box has a “particularly short shift travel which, on difficult terrain, ensures smooth and low-noise operation”.
