Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HGV TOLL FEES ON the Humber Bridge could rise to £40.60 from £36.60 for a return trip after an 18-month price freeze comes to an end.

The Humber Bridge Board launched a consultation into proposed toll increases that was due to end earlier this month. But following complaints that it had not adequately publicised the consultation, objections can continue to be received until 31 January.

The 10% rise in the current one-way charge for HGVs of £18.30 has been branded ludicrous by the Road Haulage Association (RHA), which says the prices could force hauliers to avoid the bridge.

RHA regional director Steve Biddle says: “The toll fees were always high. I would imagine most of the people would be determined to go around the long route.” Local MP Andrew Percy says he has written to the Humber Bridge Board opposing the rises in the current economic conditions.

Chairman of the Board David Gemmell says it has complied with advertising procedures for objections.

“The Board has worked with the inspector for the inquiry and the Department for Transport to ensure that the public can have their say on these issues,” he says.

“The inspector has decided he will consider late objections as long as they are received by 31 January.”
