Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

! Shortlisted: Renault Kerax arti 0 nce upon a time, back in the days of TipCon, we could guarantee at least half a dozen tippers for roadtest ever year. Where have they all gone? This year's test crop amounted to just three, but one of them was a very special machine indeed.

While other manufacturers have shaved precious kilos off their six-wheelers by fitting small six or seven-litre lumps, Daf's CF75.36( is unashamedly "well-engined upwith a nine-litre diesel under the cab That inevitably means it can't quite match the kerbweigh of the 'light' sixers from MAN and Mere, but its extra cubes give it strong engineering and residual values as well as terrific on-road performance.

If you want a productive tipper that handles well and has good driver appeal ther the 360hp Daf certainly delivers the goods. What's more as its big engine has a relaxed feel and doesn't guzzle fuel simply to keep uf we summed it up as "fast and frugal".

Moving up to 32 tonnes, Renault's Kerax fighway certainly wasn't disgraced by its fuel onsunaption -we described its A-road figure s "astonishing". Its "370" badge is a tad iptirnistic it only puts out 356hp but that should keep most eight-legger buyers happy.

The Kerax 8x4 was somewhat unusual in that it arrived with a 'Global' rest/sleeper cab. This inevitably ate into its payload (but not by that much) but when it comes to driver comfort and a decent place to take a midday nap it's hard to beat.We rated the Kerax Highway's interior highly.

The Highway's big brother, the Kerax 420.27 6x4 tractor unit and tipping trailer, is a bit of a beast, but boy what a beast If you're looking for a double-drive tractor for waste or landfill work then in the words of our tester: "It does exactly what it says on the tin."

While we weren't able to fully explore its off-road credentials it looks lobe a very capable performer.

At 44 tonnes it may not get the juices flowing on fuel economy (what double-drive tractor does?) and payload could be better too, but if you're up to your axles in muck and bullets this truck should pull you out.

Three very strong contenders, but in the end we opted for the all-round ability of the Daf CF 75.360, which we reckon is a real little cracker.
