Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers are being urged to have their bank charges checkec closely after Patrick Hall MP told parliament: "It would seem tha about 75% of all bank business customers have been over charged and the average overcharge amounts to about 14,000: He is urging the government to set up a new regulator tc protect customers. This issue was brought to his attention 4■ a business in his Bedford constituency which was experienc ing problems with a bank. Hall subsequently contacted Anglii Business Associates, which specialises in recovering banl overcharges, and claims the problem is widespread.

Audit UK, a similar company, is helping ex-haulier Josepi Pallett of Nailston, Leics, in his claim for overcharging agains a bank. His business, JW Pallett, had 12 vehicles when it wen' into receivership in 1996. Patricia Pallett, his daughter and thi former transport manager, says: "In my father's case, WE have so far found that the bank overcharged £8,000 on on year's statement."

But Brian Capon for the British Bankers' Association says much of the press coverage about overcharging is gen, erated by companies promoting their own services.
