Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the truck is doing" EDDIE MILTON Ramage Brothers of Glespin, some 30 miles south of Glasgow, was set up 2,7 years ago and has depots at Haydock and Welham Green. Service director Eddie Magilton runs a predominantly Daf trunldng fleet of 120 vehicles distributing white/brown goods and food products around Britain. Just over a year ago he put out a tender for the supply of 12 new tractive units. Iveco dealer Kerr and Smith of Cumnock came back with a competitive quote with the EuroTech 380 specified with the 9.6-litre engine.

"We have dealt with Kerr and Smith for about 25 years and have built up a good relationship with them in that time so we decided to give them the order," says Magilton. "These are the first Iveco trucks we

have bought. We plan to run them for to years, like the rest of our fleet, so we were not put off by the prospect of poor residual values. I had read quite a bit about the EuroTronic in the press and decided to indude one in the overall order so that we could evaluate it against the other it trucks.

"It has the i2-speed ETI800 transmission which operates in the same way as the stronger ET2200 r6-speed box which is reserved for the more torquey 47ohp units," he adds. "It's been running for over 12 months now and it has got on quite well. We have had just one technical problem. Normally pickup from rest is very smooth, but in this case when reverse was selected the truck jumped away as soon as the driver touched the accelerator. The cause was found to be with a sender unit. ZF replaced it very promptly and over 150,0oolcm or so we have had no further problems.

"Fuel consumption varies as to the work much in keeping with the other trucks in the fleet at about 8.25mpg," Magilton reports. "Although they are 6x2 units we are still operating at 38 tonnes which, for the time being, suits our customers taking palletised loads.

"We do all our own servicing and are happy with the backup at dealer level. They handle warranty work. Roadside backup is good from the people who attend but due to its administration it takes much longer than Daf Aid to get help to the truck.

"Our driver really likes the EuroTronic and we are pleased with the way it is perform ing," he says, "but I would want two to three years' experience behind us

before finally committing to buy another. MI
