Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Let's face it. the lunatics have taken over the asylum. We're buying the most expensive fuel in Europe; we pay the highest road tax in Europe; our friends over the Channel are playing "blockade the Brits" (again).

And now the Traffic Commissioners are revoking hauliers' licences when they don't want to (CM 20-26 Jan).

According to your last issue Traffic Commissioner Michael Turner pulled an 0-licence and told the operator (that should be "ex-operator" I suppose) that "in the ordinary course of events he would not have been considering licence revocation". He even said he was "sorry" the situation had arisen.

He's sorry! How do you think the haulier feels?

The excuse is that the latest batch of laws to be dumped on us take away the Traffic Commissioners' freedom to decide who should have their wrists slapped and who should be taken off the road, probably leaving drivers on the dole.

Didn't any of the desk jockeys in the Department of Transp bother to get some ail before getting the politicians rubber stamp this stupid law?

The TCs have their faults, if they don't know much ab transport when they take these jobs, they soon learn. how are they meant to put t experience to use now?

Is it too much to ask son one in government to adi they made a mistake bef( loads more of us get caught the same trap?

Peter Black, Biggin Hill, Kent.
