The recruits will rent their unit for three to five years, after which they will be allowed to buy it for a "peppercorn" sum. Hills Transport says that around 80% of its 70 drivers are in its franchise scheme, a move it made three years ago to ensure the survival of the 98-year-old business, says operations manager Steve Davis.
