Joseph Ash talks to us about the 10.5-tonner EuroCargo 100E-185 he drives for his family's Glasgow-based recovery business Thomas Ash & Sons.

We run 10 trucks, all customised, travel the length and breadth of the UK
and can boast one of the most up to date recovery fleets in Europe. Our latest truck is no exception. It is a 1 0.5-tonne lveco Ford
EuroCargo 100E-185 which has disc brakes at the Front and bock.
The truck has been specially customised at a cost of
over £70,000. It even has a private registration just to finish it off—L10 ASH.
The interior is designed by myself, Thomas Ash Snr and Kirkcaldy-based recovery vehicle manufacturer MSM Engineering Services.
It is fitted with a television, video player, a soft drinks cabinet
and video cassette storage in a velour trimmed console. And it has
a hot drinks dispenser which serves coffee, tea and soups. It also has individual reading lights and a thermostatically controlled cab heater. And to complete the effect the three-seater high-back seat and curtains are finished in tartan. Our business is to carry out vehicle recovery and roadside assistance and we often have to travel long distances. It is bad enough breaking down, so it is nice to step into a luxurious cab. People forget they have broken down and can watch a video, have a coffee or lust listen to some music.
Most of our work comes from National Breakdown and once people see our cabs they want to break down. Regularly people
ask for our company to recover their vehicle, although they are not within our area, so they can sit and watch Neighbours.
