ONE of the principal reasons why Tinsley Rolling Mills Co., Ltd., supported an application by Wilfred Harrison (Transport), Ltd., of Norborough Road, Tinsley, at Sheffield on Tuesday, was because they, had been led to believe that same of their rates would he reduced if the case were granted.
This was stated by Mr. A. W. Balne, for the B.T.C., objecting to proposals by Harrison to transfer four contract-A vehicles to public-A licence. At present these units were contracted to the Tinsley Rolling Mills, steel manufacturers. Harrison's also sought one additional vehicle to be used solely for local work.
The managing director, Mr. W. Harrison, said that if the four units in question were on public A licence they would be able to carry return loads, and operation would be more flexible.
If the application were granted they would be in a better position to offer better rates to Tinsley Rolling Mills.
Mr. Harrison said he had made no definite promises to Tinsley about reduced rates and he Could not quote examples of them.
The case is to he continued.
