The Fourth -Annual Exhibition Held in the French Capital.

THE fourthannual Salon de la Machine Syndicale, which was held in Paris last week, suffered somewhat from its surroundings. Banished from the Grand Palais on account of preparations for the Decorative Arts Exhibition, the Agricultural Machinery Show was held in some hastily erected buildings outside the Porte de Versailles, where a permanent exhibition park is in

course of construction. In spite of certain inconveniences, however, the Show was wonderfully well attended.

Improved methods of agriculture are of the utmost importance to France in these days, a fact of which the French public is well aware. The number of exhibitors was greater, than in 1924, there being 510, as compared with 463 a year ago, but very few novelties were to be seen. The majority of the stands in the motor section presented exactly the same machines as last year.

Amongst British firms exhibiting the Austin Co. showed tractors, and Messrs. Ruston-Hornsby and Bamfords, of littoxeter, showed agricultural machinery of all kinds. Some of the most interesting machines to be seen were the special motor cultivators for use in the wine-growing districts of France. Amongst these was a chain-track machine by Messrs. Vidal, of Montpellier. This curious tractor is designed to straddle over a row of vines, the engine being mounted transversely on a sort of -.bridge between the two trackrg.

Portable gas producer plants for charcoal gas were again a feature of the Show, and a number of tractors designed to run on charcoal gas were to be seen, a fine example being the big Renault tractor.

Amongst motor ploughs the CzechoSlovakian firm of Excelsior again showed some of their splendid machines ; Messrs. Delahaye also showed a gigantic motor plough, in addition to powerdriven agricultural implements of every

kind for all sorts of purposes.

An unusual example of consideration for the ploughman was noticed on the Praga motor plough, where the driver is placed on a comfortable motorcar seat and protected from the weather by a Cape-cart hood. A very fine motordriven winding machine for cable-drawn ploughs was shown by Dubois and Plantade. This machine is capable of being used on the road as an ordinary tractor for towing purposes. American exhibits were more numerous than last year, particularly in the ' case of tractors.

Amongst French tractors exhibited were the Renault, Delannay-Belleville (" A.R.A."), &emit, Latil, S.O.M.U.A., Agro, Clet c, etc. The hinged driving . plates on t e wheels of the Latil tractor for use o soft land attracted a good deal of at ention. The Agro generalpurpose ti ctor has been improved in design and rendered more compact ; it is a useful achine, arranged for rigid coupling t a great variety of agricultural impl melts.

The spe ml feature of the DelaunayBelleville actor is an oscillating form of jockey artier, which gives greater flexibility o the chain tracks than the ordinary t pe. Amongst general exhibits those of the De Dion Co. and the Fiat Co. were phrticularly interesting. Every variety of motor-driven implement was exhibited.
