Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE recently announced Volkswagen LT light van range is now available with a 2.7-litre (174.6cuin) Perkins diesel engine as optional equipment.

Perkins have been manufacturing the engine designated the 4.165 at their new plant in Hanover-Linden, West Germany, since the end of 1975. It will be the first entirely " metric " engine to be produced by Perkins and was designed specifically for appli cations such as the VW.

Although it is a completely new power unit, it is strongly based on the slightly smaller 4.154 series and has, Perkins says, advanced features including a new cylinder head with indirect injection. The engine develops 52kW (70bhp) at 3,600rpm which should give the LT a lively performance.

It is claimed that engine accessibility is good, as all regular top-up items can be reached without difficulty• through small detachable plates on the engine cover, and the cover itself can be removed for complete access to the whole engine.

Production from the first stage of the new Perkins engine plant is set at a maximum of 26,000 units a year, but other lines are available to increase this or manufacture other engines.
