Arthur Anderson, 34, has been appointed manager of the Manchester forwarding division of ConstantineLloyd, a member of the Constantine group of companies. Mr Anderson was previously forwarding manager for Hauser Altport.

Sir Frederick Catherwood and Alex A. Jarratt have been appointed to the main board of the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co (Great Britain) Ltd. Sir Frederick, 49, is a former managing director of John Laing and Son Ltd and now a member of its main board; he is chairman of the British Institute of Management. He was directorgeneral of the NEDC from 1966 to 1971. Mr Jarratt, 50, was recently appointed chairman and chief executive of Reed International Ltd, the parent company of CM's pubfishers. He joined Reed in 1970, as a board member, and as managing director of IPC. He became chief execu

tive of IPC in January 1974. Before joining Reed he was First Secretary to the Prices and Incomes Board. Alex Jarratt is a governor of the London Business School and of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research.

John Locke, 50, a Deputy Secretary in the DoE, who became director of Occupational Safety and Health in 1972 and has been acting as chairman of the "shadow" management board for the new Health and Safety executive, now becomes director of the Commission. The appointment has been made by chairman Bill Simpson and approved by Employment Minister Michael Foot. Mr Simpson, whose appointment was announced in September, was general secretary of the AUEW (Foundry Section).

Peter Bunch, 28, joins Southern BRS from Hertz (UK) Ltd, where he was London contracts manager. He will be based at Potters Bar and be responsible for selling contract hire, warehousing and distribution and general haulage services. Edward Purser, 25, whose experience includes selling transport services to Middle Eastern countries, is joining SBRS in a similar capacity to that of Mr Bunch.

R. E. Malby has been appointed director and secretary of Stenor Ltd. Mr Malby held a similar post at Boscombe Engineering Ltd of Poole, space heating equipment supplier and "sister" company to Stenor in the Firth Cleveland sub-group of,GKN.

Graham McDonald, 27, has been appointed secretary/accountant for National Travel .(Midlands) Ltd.

Neil Crowe has been appointed general manager of G.H. Warehousing Ltd. Denis Fastnedge is chairman and chief executive. These appointments are part of the company's reorganization announced by Godfrey Holmes Ltd.

Obituary

We record with regret ,the death of ClIr Thomas McLaren.

CM. McLaren was chairman of Greater Glasgow Passenger Transport Authority. He was elected to Glasgow Corporation in 1962 and became convener of the transport committee.
