Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Qo Thursday of last week the Institute of Road Transport Engineers held a second open-forum meeting devoted to careers in road transport engineering, the first of these having taken place in 1962. On this occasion there were three speakers, rather than a "panel of experts ", and the first was Mr. J. R. Burrill, chairman of the general purposes committee of the Institute and assistant transport engineer of J. Sainsbury Ltd. Mr. Burrill dealt with the function of the road transport engineer and outlined such an engineer's responsibilities with regard to the repair and overhaul of vehicles, in addition to efficiency and safety aspects, the need to be conversant with official regulations and the keeping of records.

Mr. S. F. Gregory, chairman of the Midlands Centre of the Institute and Midland regional transport manager of British Bakeries Ltd., gave a talk on "How to get the job ", and he stressed the importance of good engineering qualifications, the desirability of youths

entering into a proper apprenticeship at the overall need for a sound mechanic education and enthusiasm. Mr. Grego also made the point that personality w important if the better jobs in the indust were being aimed at, and added that I felt that the best openings for buddit transport engineers lay in goods-haula; fleets (as opposed to passenger-vehic fleets) because of the greater number such fleets.

The third speaker was Mr. St. Jot Browne, chairman of the Eastern Cent of the Institute and general servii manager of Perkins Engines Ltd., and 1 dealt with the help that a profession body could be to a young transpo engineer, stressing, like Mr. Gregory, ti importance of good qualifications, b referring also to the help that an orgat ization such as the Institute of Rol Transport Engineers could be to inc vidual fleet engineers with respect providing the answers to some of the more unusual problems.
