nESIGNED specially for use with the

Caltex 7 c.c. starting fluid capsules marketed by the Regent Oil Co., Ltd., an oil-engine primer known as the Polar Start has been. introduced by M.G.A. Industries, Ltd., II Forest Road, Loughton, Essex. The primer consists of a cylindrical chamber into which the capsule is placed, the pump barrel being entered into the open end and locked by a bayonet fixing.

Depression of the plunger handle pierces the capsule and empties the contents, further strokes of the plunger ejecting the fluid by air pressure through a spray jet fitted into the inlet manifold of the engine.

Costing £5 17s. 6d. complete, the unit is supplied with a universal mounting bracket with two-bolt fixing, whilst the jet is threaded in. B.S.P.

Cheap Fire Extinguisher AN inexpensive fire extinguisher known as the Cyca 13 has been produced by Streatham Laboratories, 9 Russell Chambers. Bury Place, London, W.C.1. It consists of a flexible nylon bottle, hand pressure on which forces liquid through a special nozzle cap in a fine spray which can be directed at the fire centre. Fumes from the liquid kill the flames.

Costing 12s. 6d.. the device is supplied with a clip bracket for fastening in the most convenient position.

Battery for Arctic Weather A BATTERY claimed to give a con sistently reliable performance at sub-4. normal temperatures has been introduced' by Chloride Batteries, Ltd., Clifton Junction, Swinton, Manchester. It can be heated artificially to ensure an extrahigh-rate performance in low ambient temperatures, and was originally developed to meet the requirements of military vehicles in extremes of cold.

The multi compartment die cast aluminium container is lined with hard rubber, so that it can be heated by means of a hot plate or hot air, or placed on top of an oil stove. Almost any method can be employed except the direct use of a naked flame With an electrolyte temperature of 70° F. the battery will discharge at 100 amp. for 161 minutes to a final voltage of 8. At 0° F. it will deal with engine starting rates of the order of 300 amp. without falling below 8v. This is the normal minimum operating voltage with a I2v. starter.

The battery is 15+ in. long, 6-ti in. wide and 81 in. high, and weighs approximately 63+ lb. when filled.

Industrial Battery Charger FOUR models of SenTerCet industrial battery charger are now available from Standard Telephones and Cables, Ltd., Rectifier Division, Edinburgh Way, Harlow, Essex.

Selenium rectifiers are used, and all circuits have A.C. ballast chokes. Fine, medium and coarse four-position switches give 63-step control of output for each circuit and compensation of output voltage is automatic. Operation is off the standard 200-250v. 50 c.p.s. single-phase supply.

Charging capacities of the four models under temperate conditions up to 86° F. are: Model 1156, 3-36 lead-acid cells at 2-15 amp., model 1157, 3-36 lead-acid cells at 1-8 amp., and model 1158, 3-24 lead-acid cells at 1-8 amp. Model 1159 has two circuits, each for 3-36 lead-acid cells at 1-8 amp.

Attacker for Masking Tape FOR attaching adhesive masking tape to 1 non-adhesive masking paper in exactly the right position with two-thirds of the tape exposed, a machine known as the Scotchboy apron taper has been introduced by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Ltd.. 3M House, Wigmore Street, London. W.1. The taper

may be mounted either on a workbench or on the wall of the paint shop.

Apron tapers suitable for 1,000-ft.-long by I8-in.-wide rolls of masking paper cost £5 I5s., whilst the smaller 12-in, width version is obtainable for £4 17s. 6d. Where it is necessary to apply adhesive tape to both edges of the masking paper. an additional drum 'bracket can be supplied for 18s.

Washing Without Water AWATERLESS wash station, which is claimed to save 11 minutes of productive time per operative each day, is now available from Deb Chemical Proprietaries Ltd., Forfar Works, Belper, Derbyshire. It consists of a Swarfcga visible-level dispenser for waterless skin cleanser, mounted on a turret-top waste receptacle.

Space is provided on the turret top for attaching two paper-towel dispensers, whilst inside the waste receptacle there is a canvas sack for catching soiled paper towels dropped through pillar-box slots. Extra paper towels and hand cleanser can be stored below the sack, which is reached through a side door.

Range of Pullers THE electrical equipment division of Martindale Electric Co., Ltd., Westmorland Road, London. N.W.9, has introduced a new range of pulley, gear, flywheel and bearing pullers which are available with twin or triple grips.

Four basic sizes are offered: a 5-ton model of 6-in, spread capacity, a 10-ton model with an 8-in, spread, a 20-ton model having a spread capacity of 12 in., and a 20-ton model which will spread to 14 in. Maximum reach of the pulling arms ranges from in. on the smallest puller to 15 in. on the largest, the reach being determined by the spread required.

The stems can be turned through 3600 after the valves have been tightened and made completely airtight.
