Ford leads the way after the first three months of the government’s scrappage scheme, with 43% of light CV registrations.

FORD CLAIMED 43% of light commercial vehicle sales in the irst three months of the government’s scrappage scheme, according to igures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The manufacturer registered 614 of the 1,427 vans bought through the scheme. Second-placed Citroën registered 224, followed by Toyota with 181, and Peugeot with 93.

By the end of July, 84,361 registrations had been completed, with CVs accounting for just 1.7% of the total scrappage scheme. Figures from the government show that 165,923 orders have been placed up to 9 August.

Oliver Rowe, press oficer for Ford of Britain, says the Southampton-built Transit Connect, which accounts for 42% of the registrations, is the most popular due to its keenness on price and availability.

Transits account for 27% of Ford’s registrations, with Ranger (22%) and Fiesta vans (9%) making up the rest.

Ford also leads the car scrappage scheme with 10,953 registrations by the end of July – 13.2% of the car scrappage market. ■
