Palletline expects a steady build-up to seasonal peak

By Joanna Bourke

PALLETLINE expects volumes to increase steadily in the run-up to Christmas.

Palletline managing director Kevin Buchanan reveals that volume growth in July was slow, but since August, it has steadily increased. “I anticipate a busy build-up to Christmas,” he says.

“Haulage irms have more time to react to the recession ahead of Christmas, compared with this time last year,” he adds.

“Companies are seeing the beneits of loads available from a pallet network.” Birmingham-based Palletline is still looking to increase its membership, but its target of 78 members by the end of 2009 (up from its current level of 75) is unlikely to be achieved until April 2010.

The network’s newest member is Aberdeen-based ARR Craib Transport, which joined recently to cover the Grampian and Tayside areas. It is the irm’s irst venture into the pallet network sector. “We recognise that customers are looking for transport partners that will add value to their businesses.

“Changes in the industry and changes in our own business proile meant the time was right for us to take this step, expanding our services to clients and opening up new areas for growth,” reveals, ARR Craib managing director Eddie Anderson.

United Pallet Network (UPN) has added a few new members to its network since June, including Telford-based BJS Distribution Storage and Pallets (South West), which is in Plymouth.

Meanwhile, UPN has taken on Andrew Spencer as a new sales director to help membership grow from 63 to 68 by the end of 2009.

Dave Brown, UPN commercial director, tells CM: “By joining a pallet network, you can offer your customers a greater breadth of service for a better price.”
