Highland haulier starts up

THREE INDUSTRY veterans have launched a new road haulage venture, Grampian Continental, despite the trading climate.

Company directors Gavin Murray, Michael Lacey and Neil Bremner have set up the Aberdeen-based business, which will run a fleet of more than 30 vehicles and 60 trailers for customers in the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors. The company, which was incorporated on 2 March, operates throughout the UK, Europe and North Africa, and has an office in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, as well as a presence in the Netherlands.

Michael Lacey, transport operations manager at Grampian Continental, tells CM: “We had 19 years together at [freight forwarder] Grampian Freight before it was acquired by Panalpina [in 2004].

“But the big company does not work for everyone, so we came up with the idea of doing it ourselves,” he adds.

Grampian Continental reveals that it has achieved the ISO9001 (quality management systems) and ISO14001 (environment management systems) accreditations as well as the OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety certificate.
