Exel checks up

I Ten Volvo FL1Os supplied by Hartshorne Motor Services to Exel Logistics have been fitted with Mercator computer systems to monitor the vehicles' movements and performance. The computers have a radio link to the fleet's base and besides monitoring fuel consumption, will also help with route planning. Theft alert

• Agri-Tech UK, a Scotland. based security company, says it has come up with an answer to truck security. Although founded to provide agricultural security systems, the company was commissioned by a Lancashirebased haulage firm to help with its theft and vandalism problem. Agri-Tech created a system based on infra-red sensors with built-in radio transmitters which transmit a signal to a central receiver in the event of an intrusion. Contact: 01475 540761.

Fleet Control

Millennium atlas

• Publisher HarperCollins has issued its 1999 Road Atlas of Britain and Ireland. It includes new mapping and a special guide to major UK millennium sites, activities and exhibitions throughout the year, Collins says place names are easier to read and roads are more distinct. Also included are city centre plans of Belfast and Dublin, an M25 London orbital map with exit signs and mileages, and a full index to place names and places of interest.
