Training boss denies a clash of interests

• A former Road Haulage Association chairman has resigned as boss of a road transport training firm after clashing with colleagues over an alleged conflict of interests.
Ken Rogers has left his post as chairman and director of Stowmarket-based RTT Training Services after refusing to give up his seat on the board of the new commercial training company, RTITB Services.
His fellow directors at RTT claim the two operations will be in direct competition.
RTITB Services will begin trading on 2 September with the backing of the £16m assets of the old Road Transport Industry Training Board. It will run courses in Bury St Edmunds, Rogers' home town and part of the RTT's catchment area,
Rogers was RHA chairman from 1980 to 1982. He says his resignation was "amicable" but is "not happy" with his col
leagues' decision: "I am not convinced there was a conflict of interest," he says.
The RTITB Services board includes other directors of commercial training schools. One of them, Mick Datson of Kelvedon, Essex-based TDT Management Services, says he will keep both jobs: "1 discussed my position at length with my fellow directors," he says, "and the question of conflict is not relevant."
